New methods
Several methods exist to control overweight. As a centre of excellence in metabolic surgery the development and application of new and innovative methods is part of our work an interest, We cooperate with major companies and researchers all over the word to be up to date in the field of bariatric and metabolic surgery.
New methods in surgery usually mean less invasive methods, less incisions, less pain and shorter time in hospital.
Stomaphyx
The Stomaphyx technology is a less invasive method for the endoscopic treatment of dilated anastomoses after gastric bypass surgery. This annastomosis is the connection between the gastric pouch and the gut, it can dilate and poor weight control or even weight regain can result. Stomaphyx allows to resize the anastomosis without any incision, simpliy from the inside of the stomach. The procedure is performed like a gastroscopy but mostly in general anaesthesia. It is routinely performed by our specialized endoscopists.
Toga
The toga procedure allows the creation of a gastric tube – similar to the sleeve gastrectomy- but from the inside of the stomach without any incision. It is performed like a gastoscopy but with a special instrument and under general anästhesia. The TOGA procedure will be available in 2011 in our centre as a pilot study.
Endobarrier
The Endbarrier separates the way of the food from the way of the digestive enzymes (gall fluid, pancreatic enzymes)- similar to the duodenal switch operation – but without any incision and without change of the normal anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract. It consists of a special prepared foil tube which is inserted into the duodenum and the small bowel. It separates the food (inside the tube) from the digestive fluids (outside the tube).
