Metabolic Surgery Methods

Every patient needs a tailor-made weight-loss solution

Bariatric surgery is weight-reductive surgery. In 2009 there were 220.000 bariatric operations performed in the USA and Canada. In Germany nearly 4000 patients were operated in 2010. Some Bariatric operations are “restrictive”, they diminish the volume of the stomach. Less food can be eaten and the overweight can be controlled. Other operations are called “malabsorptive”, that means, that the absorption of the food with the result the calories get reduced. With the most bariatric operations it is possible to loose at least half of the overweight in one year.

According to international guidelines, bariatric surgery is applicable for patients with a BMI > 40 kg/m2 – or for patients with a BMI between 35 and 40 kg/m2 and two ore more obesity-related diagnoses – like Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea ect.
